CELEBRATING ALTOONA's rich RAILROAD HISTORY with Railroad Songs Concert on March 26th @ 6pm
In 2001 the Philadelphia-based acoustic guitar duo Artese N Toad wrote a Railroad-themed song called “Daddy’s Old Train Box”,
which sparked the writing of a whole CD’s worth of trains songs.
Due to the global success of that CD, titled “They Don’t Write Songs About Trains Anymore”, more Railroad-songs were written, recorded and published in 2005, incl. the song “Altoona“, which is a biographic Railroad-homage to our Blair County hometown’s Railroad-history.
Beside Artese N Toad, the concert on March 26 features Don Osborn (electric guitar) and Bill Hunter (bass) as opening act,
plus the Altoona Horseshoe Chorus performing 2 songs towards the end of the main-act's intermission.
In 1849, they came to build a town,
to service the railroad they called the PRR
The Pennsylvania Railroad
made this town its home,
in the Allegheny foothills
Altoona had been born.
In 1854, they built the Horseshoe Curve,
and finished the tunnels at Gallitzin
It opened the door to the biggest railroad in the world,
and Altoona was the standard that no other line could fill.
Altoona - Where the money flowed like wine
Altoona - Was the heart of the railroad line
Artese N Toad’s first RR-CD had even started off with a song that mentions our Historic Horseshoe Curve several times, a song called “Ghost on the Track”.
This expansive, rich repertoire of Railroad songs is almost unique from one group,
but that duo is coming to the ArtsAltoona Sanctuary on 3/26 !
Beside the music there will also be Railroad/Train-themed art exhibited:
Paintings, photograph and select RR-artifacts.
Tickets for the 3-hour long concert of 2 bands and 1 choir
are just $10 at the door on Saturday, March 26th.
